The Department of Interventional Neurology at SPS Hospitals utilizes minimally invasive, image guided techniques to treat most complex brain and spine disease. The team of Endovascular Surgeons and Neurosurgeons collaboratively provide comprehensive care and angiographic imaging and catheter based minimally invasive treatment for the following Adult and Paediatric Neurovascular conditions:

  • Cerebral aneurysms
  • Brain arteriovenous malformations
  • Dural arteriovenous fistulas
  • Acute ischemic thrombo-embolic stroke
  • Intra-cranial tumors (e.g. meningioma, paraganglioma, hemangioblastoma)
  • Epistaxis
  • Intracranial and extra-cranial atherosclerotic stenosis
  • Traumatic carotid and vertebral artery injury
  • Osteoporotic and neoplastic spinal insufficiency fractures
  • Cutaneous vascular anomalies (e.g. venous malformations, lymphatic malformations, hemangiomas)

The following neuro-endovascular procedures are offered for the management of the conditions listed above :

  • Acute mechanical and chemical intracranial thrombolysis (MERCI and PENUMBRA systems)
  • Intracranial Stenting
  • Carotid Stenting
  • Vertebral and Subclavian Stenting
  • Pre-Operative Head and Neck Tumor Embolization
  • Aneurysm Embolization
  • AVM and Dural AVF Embolization
  • Wada Testing for Pre-Surgical Work-Up of Epilepsy
  • IPSS (Inferior Petrosal Sinus Sampling)

The results in terms of improved diagnosis and clinical outcomes are great by using advanced cross-sectional and three dimensional imaging. The endovascular procedures are performed in dedicated Neurovascular Biplane Cath lab equipped with rotational angiography and 3D reconstruction software.

State-of-the-art care is being provided at our Neurological ICU with the collaborative relationship with other disciplines and full anaesthesia support on a daily basis for elective and emergency procedures. Stroke neurologists are actively engaged in the management of ischemic stroke patients.

We also have the access to the most modern neurological prosthetic implants (coils, stents, particulate, and liquid embolic materials) and disposable equipment (micro-catheters, micro guidewires, and retrievers).
